Liverpool have been handed a major fitness boost with the news Daniel Sturridge has returned to light training, reports the Daily Star.

The 25-year-old was ruled out for three weeks with a thigh strain sustained whilst on international duty with England, whilst some reports suggested he could be out for as long as six weeks with the injury.

But the news Sturridge has returned to training will be a welcome relief for Liverpool fans, with the report even suggesting he could be in line for a return against West Ham on Saturday.

Liverpool are in need of a decent performance in east London, having failed to impress on their last two outings.

The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend, before scraping past FC Ludogorets with a last minute Steven Gerrard penalty on their return to the Champions League last night.

Sturridge has been missed in those two matches, with the forward having scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, and a winner in the opening day victory over Southampton at Anfield.
