Liverpool have been linked with a move for Napoli star Marek Hamsik by the Metro.

The Slovakian midfielder has been linked with a move away from Rafael Benitez’s side for some time, with Brendan Rodgers understood to be a big admirer.

And fresh reports have linked with the Reds with a January move, after Hamsik gave a somewhat cryptic response when questioned about his future.

‘I am happy here but in football you never know,’ he told reporters.

The Reds could make a move as early as January for the talented midfielder, who could be viewed as a potential long term replacement for 34-year-old Steven Gerrard.

Napoli were linked with Lucas Leiva during the summer, so any move for Hamsik may see the Brazilian used as a makeweight in the deal.
