Liverpool have been drawn in Group B upon their return to the Champions League, alongside reigning champions Real Madrid ,FC Basel, and Ludogorets 1945.

Liverpool fans will immediately look towards the ties against Real Madrid, and remember the last time the Reds faced the 10-time European Cup winners.

Rafael Benitez guided his side to a 1-0 win at the Bernabeu in 2009, before a 4-0 thrashing in the return leg of the last 16 tie at Anfield, on a night which captain Steven Gerrard scored twice.

Liverpool also have memories of facing Swiss side Basel in their Champions League history – although not as happy.

The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw in the Group stage at Anfield in 2002-03, and eventually crashed out of the competition after a 3-3 draw in Switzerland – despite coming back from 3-0 down at half time.

Bulgarian side Ludrogorets are making their debut in the competition, having qualified in dramatic circumstances.

Defender Cosmin Moti saved two shootout penalties to help the Bulgarians to victory over Steaua Bucharest, with the 29-year-old stepping in for the goalkeeper who was sent off in the final minute of extra time.
