Rafael Benitez has joined Arsenal and Tottenham in the race to sign Daniel Agger, according to the Daily Star.

The Danish defender has been consistently linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, following the arrival of Dejan Lovren from Southampton.

The vice-captain was reported to have made a tearful request to leave to manager Brendan Rodgers, although the Reds boss says there have been no enquiries as of yet.

That could change soon however, with Napoli boss Rafa Benitez ready to bid for the centre back he signed for the Reds in January 2006.

Agger enjoyed a successful spell under Benitez during his time at Anfield, and would be open to a move to Naples and the offer of Champions League football, providing Napoli overcome Athletic Bilbao in their qualification play-off clash.

Liverpool would rather sell to Napoli as well, so as not to directly strengthen a direct rival in Arsenal or Tottenham.

Arsene Wenger has identified the Dane as the man to replace Thomas Vermaelen, who joined Barcelona for £15million last week.
