Monaco have denied holding talks with Real Madrid regarding the transfer of Liverpool target Radamel Falcao, according to talkSPORT.

Reports emerged yesterday that Brendan Rodgers had enquired about the availability of the Colombian striker, as the hunt for Luis Suarez’s replacement continues.

Social media claimed the Reds were the favourites for his signature, and some bookmakers made Falcao 4/6 ON to complete a move to Anfield.

But by the afternoon it appeared Liverpool had been ruled out of the race, with the forward reportedly on the way to Real Madrid.

However, Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev – who is interested in signing Angel Di Maria – claims he has held talks with Real Madrid recently, but not about the future of Falcao.

He told L’Equipe: “I have had several meetings with Real Madrid officials, but we have never talked about Falcao. We are counting on the player for next season. I believe he is happy to be back after injury and training with his team-mates.”

Falcao only completed the £50million move to the Ligue 1 club 12 months ago, after scoring 70 goals in 90 appearances for Atletico Madrid.

Disagree. Falcao is an out and out striker, Suarez is so much more. He only played up top when Sturridge was out. Falcao is not who we need
