Liverpool have been linked with a £16million move for Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi as the search for a striker at Anfield intensifies, reports the Metro.

Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a number of strikers since sanctioning the £75million sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, with Wilfried Bony, Marco Reus, Ezequiel Lavezzi, and Radamel Falcao the latest names being mentioned.

And now it appears reports from Italy are suggesting the Reds are preparing a bid for Inter Milan’s exciting young forward Icardi.

The 21-year-old scored nine goals in 22 appearances for Inter Milan last season, although he could not guide the San Siro giants into the Champions League.

Inter had previously quoted a price of £28million for the young Argentine, but Icardi has told the Italian press he would be open to a move to the Premier League – especially for a club able to offer Champions League football.

That has given Liverpool hope, and the Reds are ready to test the water with a bid of £16million.
