Liverpool are set to make a formal bid for Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah this week according to reports in The Telegraph.

Salah has been a long term target for Liverpool during this January transfer window but it seems like Basel and the Reds have been failing to reach an agreement on the transfer fee as the winger is valued at £12million by his Swiss club.

The report states:

Liverpool will make a formal bid for Basel winger Mohamed Salah this week. The club have been planning a move for the Egyptian since the January transfer window opened, but the valuation of £12?million has been prohibitive.

However, negotiations will step up with the Swiss side in the next few days, with manager Brendan Rodgers hoping to make a significant purchase.

Adding a player of Salah’s quality would be a much welcome boost for Liverpool as we continue to try push for a top four finish. Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield against Aston Villa showed that Liverpool still have a lot of hard work to do if we are to clinch a Champions League place.

Going forward , Liverpool do not have many problems and Salah’s attacking qualities would most likely more goals to the sides arsenal. Raheem Sterling has been playing very well for Liverpool and Salah would come in and provide competition for the young winger. Sterling has played many games back-to-back recently and he could do with a break as to avoid burn out.

If Salah does join Liverpool this week, I think Brendan Rodgers still needs to go out and buy a left back and a defensive midfielder. Aly Cissokho is still not good enough for play for the Reds and we are not sure how bad Lucas’ injury is. With John Henry watching from the stands on Saturday, I hope I saw that his side need some new players and he will sanction the purchase of them.

I hope you are wrong & he is not competition for Sterling . If so it is a waste of money . A quality D/M & A/M should be priority . Our midfield is rubbish & I include Lucas in this , he was no better than anyone else vs. Villa , the only difference he made was it allowed Stevie to move up where he was more effective .
