There has been a lot of speculation lately linking Liverpool vice-captain Daniel Agger with a move away from Liverpool. With the arrivals of Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure in the summer, Liverpool now have a wealth of options at centre back, coupled with the younger defenders such as Martin Kelly, Andre Wisdom and Tiago Ilori, many saw Agger slowly being phased out of the Liverpool side.

But the Danish ace has hung on to fight for his place in the starting lineup and had won is place back until recently being injured against Oldham in the FA Cup. Injuries have plagued Agger’s spell at Liverpool and that may be another reason rumours fly around that the club may sell him.

Agger was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer but that never took place. The Liverpool defender has now told Danish publication Jyllands-Posten that he is ignoring the rumours linking him with a move away from Anfield. “I’m not thinking about moving at the moment, not at all,” said Agger.

“I’ve only seen what the papers say and I can’t really do anything about it. There is no reason to believe these rumours.”

It will be interesting to see what Liverpool’s stance is come the summer with regards to Agger. I am sure if Barcelona or any other team in Europe come knocking with an offer, the Reds may consider it and cash in on the player whilst they can, considering the varied range of options available now in central defence.

But for now, Agger is sticking around and hopefully he recovers soon from his latest calf injury and is back in the reckoning to help Liverpool clinch a top four finish.
