I am narked. I am the type of Liverpool Fan that will try and read each and every single news article, website or blog that features my team. And I have come across many from a ‘so-called’ Liverpool fan calling for King Kenny to get rid of Big Andy Carroll. One in particular made my Red blood boil with the heading, “When will Kenny dispose of the 35 million pound flop.” I responded by informing the writer about some good colleges in his area that offer courses in Accounting and Business. He should leave sports and Liverpool commentary to Liverpool fans who know what they are talking about. Perhaps I was harsh, but I am annoyed by these ‘fans’ who have not learnt from the past.

Five years ago, Rafa Benitez signed a little known Brazilian midfielder. He was a blonde, long haired scrawny player who looked like a 14 year old boy in need of a good meal. He was useless. He could not run, he could not tackle, he could not pass. The only thing he could do was get my blood pressure up screaming at my television set. And I was not the only one. I am not exaggerating when I say every Liverpool fan I am in contact with wanted to see the back of Lucas Leiva. Two years later, every one of us is left with a taste of foot in our mouths. Lucas has morphed into being one of our best players and an important part of our team. He was and deservedly so our player of the season last year and made more tackles than any player in the top four European Leagues. A player so important to Liverpool fans that when he went down injured against Chelsea on Tuesday night, I swear I heard a universal gasp from Liverpool supporters. If Lucas can turn his fortunes around, then why can’t Andy Carroll?

I am peeved at all the references to the price Liverpool paid for the big number 9. I was one of the loudest voices who believed we paid too much for him, but that is not his fault. He did not choose his price, and the transfer is now history. We need to move on. Now he is a Red player and needs all the support he can get. He is still a young player and you do not go from being the hottest English property one year to useless the next. Yes, he has not found his feet yet but we must be patient. Have we not learnt from our error in judging to soon with Lucas? Yes Carroll missed a penalty, but all players do and will. Yes he has not scored as many goals as we would like, but how many games has he played? When I have seen Andy Carroll playing, I have seen him putting in a mountain of effort and overall I have been happy with his endeavour. He has proven to be a handful with most defences. Liverpool and King Kenny just need to figure the best way to play to his strengths. Remember he is still 23 years old, and someone who can be developed as a footballer in the Liverpool way. The Liverpool way is not to turn on our players and to put unnecessary pressure on them. The Liverpool way is not criticise our own players in the media. The Liverpool way is to pat a player on the back after he misses a penalty and telling him he will never walk alone. That is the Liverpool way, and if we, the fans stay true to the values of this great club, I foresee a future of Liverpool success with Andy Carroll leading the charge.

The massive difference between the two is that Lucas works hard and Carroll doesn’t. Even when Lucas was having poor run of form he tried his best but was making mistakes but problem with Andy is, he isn’t even trying. I watched him play so many times this season he is doing better than previous few games but his work ethic is very poor. When all Liverpool players are pressing their opponents Carroll is standing still and even when inside the box he is just standing still their is no movement from him, he would rather have ball come to him than him going for the ball. He strength is his biggest weapon but every other premiership defender has been out-muscling him from the ball. IMO his feet are too slow and whenever he sprints it looks like he is running in slow motion.
I think Carroll can be deadly in the box but he needs to work harder which he hasn’t been doing.

Comparing Carroll with Lucas is like comparing apples with oranges. Lucas came from a different country, a diff language, a diff league, a diff style of play and a diff climate. Hence, he needed time to bed in in England. Andy Carroll had already had these in his favour before he came to Liverpool. So kindly stop using Lucas as a basis to argue for Carroll. And at the end of the day hez goin to nt judged by goals, why, because his primary role is to score goals, especially in wake of a goal shy midfield! Everythn else, his link up, his harassing presence (am having a laugh) is secondary. In a team where everybody else relies on quick passing, his first touch is atrocious, he has no speed and for a big man, goes to ground too easily and moves like a lumbering bear all over th place. 35mn may not be his fault, all these certainly are.

Liverpool have missed 3 out of 4 penalties this season.

It’s about time somebody wrote an article of this nature. In any world how can it be condusive to the good of the club to batter our players the second they stop producing. Supporting a team means exactly that, supporting the whole team, not picking your favourites and lambasting the rest. AC will come good, all he needs is confidence, how he will get that when even the clubs own supporters won’t believe in him makes the task even more difficult. To all those Liverpool supporters who constantly look for reasons to moan, or players to direct your fraustration out on, go support another team because Liverpool supporters are special, we support our team no matter what and people like you are not welcome.

lets have some faith in the big man and the king. CMON ANDY CARROLL, YNWA!

  8. Ashfah Hussain says:

Caroll will get his act together. Just give him time.

  9. chauser says:

So anyone who has a different opinion of a player to you is simply not a fan? You can’t live with the idea that someone holds a conflicting idea to any you have? You must be a sad sack!

  10. Yasin says:

Andy Carroll will be a class act for Liverpool given time and support by fans. All these people calling for AC to be dropped or sold are the same ones telling anyone who will listen that liverpool should’ve signed all these foreign superstars, like its as simple as that especially given that Livepool are not in the champions league. It takes time to build a good side who’s success will last many years…if you can’t wait a couple of years than go and support Mna City.

CHAUSER Theres a flippen VAST difference between having a difference of opinion on a player and constantly slagging a player off.
So please dont try justify your pathetic attitude towards some players using that argument.
