Dalglish already facing defender headaches before the season starts

Aug 09, 11 Dalglish already facing defender headaches before the season starts

With Sunderland visiting Anfield this Saturday for the first game of the Premier League season, Kenny Dalglish is already facing some defensive problems ahead of this game. A lot has been said about Liverpool’s defence this pre-season which let in 15 goals in 6 games. But hopefully the problems have been addressed on the training ground and come Saturday our defenders will be at their best as we saw against Valencia.

Dalglish will have the added problem of picking the right players come Saturday to sure up our defence. First choice right-back Glen Johnson has been ruled out of action for two weeks after picking up a thigh injury against Valencia. That will most likely mean that Martin Kelly will start at right-back come Saturday.

The left-back position still remains a problem for Liverpool and I doubt if we are to sign Jose Enrique from Newcastle, it will be in time for the game on Saturday. With that said, Fabio Aurelio is really our first choice left-back but he has only returned from injury and may not be fit enough to play 90 minutes yet. That means Insua or Robinson may get the nod to start at left-back.

In central defence, we also have Martin Skrtel out injured but he should be back soon. It is more than likely that Dalglish will start with Carragher and Agger which is not a bad combination at all. It is still been suggested that Liverpool are in the market for another central defender with Birmingham’s Scott Dann being the top candidate. Whether Dalglish goes out and buys another centre-back remains to be see. For now, he has to work with what is available to him.

  1. We need a CB and LB urgently, we should forget about Dann as he is not good enoughwe need to got for Cahill, bid £12million + N’Gog (£3.5million) and then also Loan Danny Wilson for the season plus we should then bid £6million for Enrique.

IN MY LAST COMMENT I SAID WE TALK MORE AND DO VERY VCERY LITTLE. WHY DONT WE ACT THAN WAISTING TIME IN TALKING. TODAY IS TUESDAY AND WE HAVE A HOME GAME ON SATURDAY AND YET WE ARE TALKING OF A CENTRAL DEFENDER AT N THIS TIME. WE SHOULD HAVE BIDDED FOR GARY CAHILL AND THAT WOULD HAVE PUT AGGER PLAY LEFT OUT, CAHILL AND CARRAGHER IN THE MIDDLE AND FLANAGAN RIGHT OUT.

WE TALKED ABOUT PERREIRA,GODIN, JENSEN ETC A WEEK AGO AND YET NOTHING CONCRETE IS ON THE TABLE.

PLEASE ACT URGENTLY BEFORE FRIDAY. GET RID OF FLOPS BEFORE SEASON STARTS.

In all fairness to the club all of the ‘talk’ is from the media and fans, we don’t really know whats going on in the background.

  3. The back for will be Kelly, Carragher, Agger and Aurelio i think. Cant see Enrique signing in time tbh. Insua won’t be played because he’s been told he can leave if we sign Enrique (daft decision imo when your back up will be a crock – and I don’t want to see Flanno/Robbo overused). I expect we’ll see Cahill/Dann and Enrique in by the end of the month though.
