The search for a left-back for Liverpool is hotting up as we edge closer to the start of the season. Virtually every left-back you can think of has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer from the likes of Clichy, Enrique, Baines and Cissokho. The latest player linked with a move to Liverpool today is Porto’s Uruguay international Alvaro Pereira.

Pereira is currently in Argentina taking part in the Copa America for Uruguay alongside Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. The Portugese paper ABola is running with the story of Liverpool targeting Pereira who is capable of playing as a left-back or left-midfield. The report suggests that Pereira has a release clause of £17.5million (20million euro) and if Liverpool are willing to pay that much they could capture the 25-year-old.

Liverpool are also being linked with another Uruguay international, centre back Diego Godin. Maybe Kenny Dalglish has seen the success that their fellow countryman Luis Suarez has had at Liverpool and hopes that they could come in and do the same. The fact that Uruguay have done so well in the Copa America by reaching the Final goes to show how talented these players are.

both defenders seem really gud from what i’ve seen so far at the Copa… but aent 17M too much for an unproved one ?

  2. RedHeart says:

    pure rumours ..Not possible …..
Pereira is more an offensive player than a defender.

I hope all these rumours become real before the transfer window close

  4. LyingSjay says:

You saw both in COPA ? Godin is sitting at home injured. Next time dont try such smart things

  5. Clive says:

I think Pereira is a bit too attack minded and he would strugglee in the EPL as a left-back. Godin is at the COPA America LyingSjay, he was on the bench in their last match.

  6. LyingSjay says:

@clive he hasnt been on the field for a single sec, doesnt make a difference whether he is on bench or getting a bj at home

  7. Jeff says:

    Idiooooooots!

  8. magnumopus says:

We will not pay that much for a left back. Specially when there are others for much less available.

  9. m kop says:

Too much money for Liverpool to spend on a LB.
I say that and it’s not even my money!

  10. Pablo says:

Palito Pereira isn’t really a left back, he can play the role well enough if needed, but he’s more at home in midfield. Uruguay lack full-backs, which is why Palito gets a lot of playing time.

Uruguay’s starting LB at the World Cup was Fucile, he missed the Copa America due to injury. Caceres has been paying as LB during the Copa, and moves into CB when Palito drops down to defend.
