Hull 1 Liverpool 3

As I write this post, I have just come from watching the Man U - Spurs game on telly and I am dejected! First of all, we did what we had to do earlier in the day by winning at Hull. It was never going to be easy up there especially when I saw Lucas starting the game for us and playing in the Stevie G position. I am not the biggest Lucas fan out there and today he seemed pretty confused as to what he was meant to be doing on the field. He didn’t know when to attack and when to defend and because of that he made far too many mistakes for my liking. But I am not going to sit hear and write about Lucas but let’s rather focus on our great win.

Football - Hull City v Liverpool Barclays Premier League

Hull have frustrated the big four this season but it was clear we were a class above them this afternoon. The longer the game went, I knew it was just going to be a matter of time before we scored and thanks to Alonso just before the break we took the lead after another wonder strike from him.

The game changed when Hull had Folan sent off for kicking Skrtel. It was a clear red card and I think the FA may take further action as that was verging on assault!! he could easily had broken one of Skrtel’s ribs with that kick. With Hull down to 10 men there was only going to be one winner and we made it 2-0 thanks to Kuyt. I got worried when Hull pulled one back to make it 2-1 as they carved up our defence. But we always had the momentum in this one especially since Hull only had 10 men and Kuyt sealed the win in the closing minutes with another strike.

We went back on top the table until a few minutes ago when United trounced Spurs. At halftime in that game I was getting excited as Spurs were leading 2-0. I never trusted Spurs and I was right! They let United back into the game although United were awarded a soft freekick but I guess we used to United winning dodgey calls at home. The rest is history and United have won 5-2 and they back at the top. #19 seems to be slipping away from us now but we have to keep on fighting. Anything can happen!!

Carlos Tevez to Liverpool?

This one will certainly ruffle some feathers in the football world none more so than Sir Alex’s. It is well known that Rafa and Sir Alex do not see eye to eye and Rafa may just piss Sir Alex off again by making a bid for Carlos Tevez in the summer. The last time these two fought in the transfer market was when Ferguson refused to sell Heinze to Liverpool saying that he can not sell a player to a rival team. But this time around Sir Alex may not have a say as Manchester United do not own Tevez. If Tevez decided to join Liverpool then he can and there is not anything Ferguson can do. That would be a big victory for Rafa if he manages to sign Tevez and he will leave Ferguson fuming mad!

Football - Manchester United v FC Porto UEFA Champions League Quarter Final First Leg

Tevez has made it clear that he wants to leave Manchester United as he finds himself behind the pecking order of Rooney and Berbatov. What makes me think that Tevez may not want to come to Liverpool is that he has stated he wants to leave England for family reasons so he is most likely going to head off to Spain with Real Madrid being the likeliest bet.

But do not rule him out of coming to Liverpool. He would suite our style of play very well as he is a work horse. He could come in and play upfront in place of Torres or play just off Torres if Gerrard is not available. And let’s not forget the relationship Tevez has with Mascherano. These two are best buddies and have been playing football together for a very long time since they were at Corinthians together then West Ham. If Rafa really wants Tevez, Ia m sure he will ask Mascherano to have a chat to Tevez and convince him to join us.

I would love it if Tevez joins Liverpool, just to piss Sir Alex off!

‘King’ Kenny Dalglish to return

Before this season started, I said that our best signing in the summer was getting Sam Lee to return to Anfield and become Rafa’s assistant. As the season is getting to a close, we have clearly progressed in the league and we may just be a bit short of getting the title this season but we are already making plans for making sure we win the Premiership next season and it all starts with the possible return of Kenny Dalglish. For me King Kenny is my all time favourite Liverpool player. I loved him as a player and then as a manager. I was gutted when he left his role as manager after the Hillsborough disaster. It is interesting to hear him now say that if Liverpool asked him to be manager again after Hillsborough, he would have said yes.

Kenny Dalglish

I would have loved to see Dalglish back in the dugout but I guess all good things come to those that wait and Dalglish may yet be back at Anfield. He may not be back in the dugout as I would have loved but whatever role he takes up, be it in the youth academy, a consultant or director of football, just having the King back in the running of the club will be a huge bonus.

If my understanding is correct, Kenny would become an advisor to Rafa and I think Rafa would benefit a great deal from Kenny’s experience especially when it comes to the league. Dalglish may spend more time working with the academy so he can develop the young talent on Merseyside and make sure they come to Liverpool and not Everton. What is encouraging to hear is that Kenny is more than ready to come back and help the club in anyway he can.

Please come back Kenny!!

Hicks and Gillett kiss and make up?

I must say I was shocked to see Tom Hicks and George Gillerr sitting next to each other in the directors box during the Arsenal game on Tuesday. Does this mean the two have put their differences aside and have finally realised that they need to work together if we are to be successful?

Football - Liverpool v Arsenal Barclays Premier League

I am not sure if they will be able to arrange the financing they require to keep the club and inject some more cash with the way the global markets are looking. The two have to refinance the club’s £350 million loans with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Wachovia, the American bank, before they are due to be repaid on July 25. It is understood they (Hicks and Gillett) were entertaining representatives from RBS on Tuesday night at the game so maybe thats why they showed signs of solidarity.

For me personally, I hope Hicks and Gillett sell the club to someone with cash. We need some big money to make big names signings to push us to the next level.

Liverpool 4 - Arsenal 4

I do not even know where to start! What a game! I am still trying to get to grips with what actually happened last night but I think I have reached the conclusion that our title hopes may just have been dashed last night. We knew we had to win every game left this season to stand a chance but we dropped two points last night. Some will say that we clinched one point at the death last night. I guess a point was better than nothing but in the context of the game, we should easily have won that game in my view!

Where we failed last night was that we made TOO many errors in defence. Errors that should never have been made and that we have hardly made all season. Arsenal’s first goal was due to an error by Mascherano, then Arbeloa made an error for their second, Aurelio was at fault for the third and the whole team was at fault for the fourth as they failed to defend the line from an attacking corner. To say Arsenal carved us up and created great goal scoring opportunities for themselves would be a lie. We gifted them all four goals but credit to Arshavin for burying all four chances.

Going into the game I was very confident we could win this game especially since Arsenal were without their two main strikers and their defence is a make shift one. We started the game like a house on fire and I thought it was only a matter of time until we would score but the whole dynamic of the game shifted when Arsenal scored first. I was over the moon at the start of the second half when Torres and Benayoun gave us the lead to make it 2-1. The next goal was going to be crucial and we needed to get it but we messed up again and gifted it to Arsenal. If we went 3-1 up there was no way I could see Arsenal fighting back.

Credit has to go to our boys for fighting the way they did to get back into the game when we were down. Credit also to the fans at Anfield! When it looked over at 4-3 down the Kop rose to its feet and started singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”! I am sorry but we are the BEST fans in the world. At that stage many fans would have walked out but we continued supporting our team to the end and they gave at the goal to make it 4-4.

Now the title is United’s to loose. We may be top of the table right now but tonight they play Portsmouth and there is no guessing who I will be supporting. I do not have a lot of faith in Pompey but with the way this season is shaping out you never know what the result may be. Even if Pompey manage to get a draw I will be happy.

Liverpool vs Arsenal - 21 April 2009

Premiership action returns on Tuesday night when the Gunners visit us at Anfield. Premiership games do not get any bigger than this. In the past it would have been Arsenal at this stage of the season challenging for the Premiership but this time it is us. It is a must win gave for us, as is every game left this season. Beating Arsenal on Tuesday will not be easy but we can do it.

We have the advantage of not having played on Saturday or Sunday so we will be fresher than Arsenal who played against Chelsea on Saturday in the FA Cup on a pitch which Wenger complained so much about. Theoretically we should have the upper hand against Arsenal but this is football after all and anything can happen.

I am just reading that Van Persie and Adabayor have been ruled out of the game which should be to our advantage as those two have really carried Arsenal through this season. We will be without Captain Fantastic, Steven Gerrard who is still nursing his groin injury. I had hoped he would be back for this game but I guess there is really no point risking him and rushing him back from injury if it means he plays one game and then is out for the rest of the season.

Having being knocked out of the Champions League, it means that the league is our only hope for silverware this season. Chelsea and Manchester United are going to have the added pressure of playing in the Champions League and hopefully this will play to our advantage as we would be fresher for the league.

It seems like ages ago when we played Chelsea in the Champions League last week. I have been looking forward to this game and I hope the boys make us proud. I see us just edging this one 2-1.
Good luck you Reds.

Is Babel on his way out?

Ryan Babel has come out and said he is not happy with his role at Liverpool of always having to come off the bench. Here we go again, another player who is complaining!! All too often today, players are not happy with being left out of the squad. Babel has only started 6 Premiership games this season and he feels he deserves more. You can understand where the Dutchman is coming from but does he really deserve to start more games for us?

Football - Preston North End v Liverpool FA Cup Third Round

I believe Babel has bags of talent and he is going to improve as he gets older. He is still relatively young and has a lot to learn. His displays this season on the left wing have been overshadowed by those of Albert Riera who for me is a better option on the wing than Babel. I have always said that I prefer to see Babel come off the bench as an impact player but clearly he does not like that role.

Would I be sad to see Babel go? Yes I would because I believe he is a guy who could get better and become a critical part of our team. Right now we need him as a squad player but he does not want that. There are times he has been called upon to lead the line upfront but he does not look like a natural goalscorer to me. He looks more effective when he cuts in from the left and crosses the ball or takes a shot.

I wonder how Rafa will react to this? Will he be tempted to offload Babel? Remember Rafa refused to let Babel go back to Ajax on loan in January so surely Rafa sees a future for Babel at Liverpool? But if Rafa can get back the £11.5m he spent on Babel then I think he may be tempted to cash in on him.

Hillsborough Remembered

Twenty years ago today, we lost 96 of our fellow fans when they travelled to watch Liverpool play at Hillsborough. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with the family and friends of the 96 fans that we lost. You will always be remembered. April 15 will be a day never to be forgotten by Liverpool fans and we at OurKop.com would like to take this moment today to remember and pay tribute to the 96 fans; you will always walk on with hope in your heart and you will never walk alone.

Football - Liverpool v Blackburn Rovers Barclays Premier League

Chelsea 4 - Liverpool 4

I have just finished watching the game and I must say it will go down in the history of great Champions League games but it is not a game I will want to see ever again! I am gutted! Honestly speaking, before the game, I did not think we were capable of pulling this one off but at half time today, there was a buzz in my living room where I was watching the game from that, we could actually do it but alas it was not meant to be!

When Aurelio gave us the lead with that cheeky freekick, that was just what the doctor had ordered. We had to score first and score early. Perfect start. Then Alonso won the penalty which some may say was controversial but that was as clear cut as they come. Alonso stepped up himself to bury the spot kick. 2-0 up and it was not even half time. We had Chelsea reeling, they were playing poorly and were there for the taking and we were having them. It is not often you see a manager make a tactical substitute before halftime but Guus made one and took Kalou off for Anelka. He had to make that change or else we were going to continue tormenting them.

The first turning point of the game for me was halftime. Chelsea needed that break so Guus could scream at them and get them to wake up and it looked like he did just that as Chelsea came out in the second half as a different team. Then the second turning point of the game and for me the moment we lost the tie: Anelka down the right whips in a low cross which Drogba gets a touch on and it beats Reina on his near post. For me that was a Reina own goal and such a school boy error by our goalie. He should never have allowed that goal to go in. That goal to make it 2-1 just got Chelsea going and there was no stopping them from there! If Reina had saved that, who knows, we may have continued to frustrate Chelsea and knicked the winner ourselves at the other end. But from 2-1 it just went downhill! Alex then dispatched a rocket of a freekick, this time you can not blame Reina. At 2-2 it was game over. Then Lampard made it 3-2 with 15 minutes to go. There was no way we could get back into this one!

But hold on, there was still drama. Two goals in 2 minutes from Lucas and Kuyt made it 4-3 to us. All we needed was one more goal to win the tie with 8 minutes left. Now I had belief it could be done only for Lampard to make it 4-4 with a minute to go. 4-4 the final scoreline, what a crazy game but one I doubt many Liverpool fans and players will want to remember.

If you had said before the game that we were going to score 4 goals at the Bridge then I would have said we are certainly going through to the semifinal. But who would have thought we would concede four goals at the same time?

Football is a funny old game but what is done is done. Good luck to Chelsea when they take on Barcelona, they are going to need it! As for us, we will keep on walking on with hope in our heart in our quest to win the Premiership.

Chelsea vs Liverpool - 14 April 2009 Champions League Preview

It is now or never for Liverpool. After loosing 3-1 at home in the first leg, many have written us off. But one thing I know about Liverpool and the character in the squad right now is that they have a strong never say die attitude. We have come back from the dead so many times this season and I honestly believe we can do the same on Tuesday against Chelsea. It will not be easy but there is still 90 minutes of football to be played and anything can happen.

We just have to look back at Istanbul in 2005 when we were 3-0 down at halftime against AC Milan and we fought back. On Tuesday night it is highly imperative that we get the first goal. That will just build up even more confidence and who knows what will happen.

Having seen Bolton score 3 goals in their 4-3 loss to Chelsea on the weekend, I have even more confidence that we can actually go through. Better yet, Chelsea will be without John Terry for this game and that will give us a hole in their defence to exploit.

Essien had Gerrard in his pocket in the first leg but I am sure Rafa has a plan for this if Chelsea decide to use the same tactic again. I believe Tuesdays game is going to boil down to the tactics adopted by the managers. Guus won the battle in the first leg but I know Rafa will not let us down for a second time. With Torres starting to fire again and Gerrard having being rested on the weekend, our attack should be revved up for this. The return of Mascherano on Tuesday will be a welcome boost for us. We missed him so much in the first leg.

I am charged up for this game and highly confident we can pull it off. My prediction; 3-0 to the Reds!
